Data centre security
What is data centre hosting?Data centre hosting involves a facility used to house mission critical computer systems and associated components. They ensure that your dedicated servers are kept in a secure environment.
How to get into a data centre
Firstly, you should contact the company that owns the data centre in order to view it, at least 24 hours beforehand.
The company will then give you the details of what it is they require in order to allow anyone (engineers or visitors) to be allowed into the facility.
If a client has their own rack space within the data centre then they should contact them directly and provide details of each person arriving. If a client has a server or solution that is provided by the ISP then they need to be contacted first.
The security guards check photo ID’s on arrival at the data centre, and then ask each person to sign in with their details. A security guard would then allow these people access to the facility.
Whether it be letting engineers access their equipment directly, or the ISP providing the space would provide their own engineer to accompany the visitors to the equipment.
Data centre security
Data centres are a secure location for Web hosting servers. They are perfect for server security, as they are designed to assure that the servers and the data housed on them are protected from environmental hazards and security breaches.
Data centres have 24 hours a day 365 days a year security cover across the whole facility. Pressure sensors are placed under the floor and there are motion detectors, making the data centre even more secure.
The data centre will contain protection equipment to make sure that any potential hazard is detected at the earliest stage, so that fires don’t start.
There is also full CCTV coverage across external areas and all internal floors/suites. There are security guards and roaming patrols monitoring on site and across all buildings.
